Do you have a community project that needs more volunteers? Maybe a garden clean up or building a new community shed is in order? Then this new resource may be just the ticket. Here’s more from Eva Ringstrom:
Flash Volunteer is a non-profit, volunteer-run website in Seattle that posts neighborhood volunteer opportunities. The events are publicized on the website and also on Twitter, Facebook, and through the free Flash Volunteer iPhone application.
- To post events, go to www.flashvolunteer.org and follow the “Create an Account” directions. (You can use either your org’s name and logo, or you can do it as yourself if you’re not affiliated with a formal group.)
- Once you have created a profile, set your message settings so that you will receive a notice when a new volunteer signs up for one of your events.
- Go to “Create an Event” to start adding your projects to the site. You can create one-time events, or post an ongoing event (e.g. if you want regular, weekly volunteers).
- Once you have an event posted, email info@flashvolunteer.org and they’ll be sure to promote it for you right away via the Twitter and Facebook applications.
- When people sign up for your event, you can send messages with reminders and details to them about the event. They will also receive an automatic reminder the day before the event.
