A 16-month planning process to develop FoodCorps began in January 2010. FoodCorps envisions recruiting young adults for a year-long term of public service in school food systems. Members will build farm-to-school supply chains, expand food system and nutrition education programs, and build and tend to schoolyard food gardens.

The ultimate goal of the project is to increase the health and prosperity of at-risk youth, while investing in the next generation of farmers.
A conference of interested stakeholders will take place in Detroit May 19-20. If you’re stuck in someplace else, open conference calls to discuss the program take place on the first Thursday of every month at 5pm ET. Or, you can participate by filling out this survey, which will help guide the direction FoodCorps takes.
At the end of this planning process, the FoodCorp concept will be pitched to AmeriCorps in January 2011.
