Urban Farms Sweep Awards at the Northwest Flower and Garden Show

Seattle Tilth and Jessi Bloom Kenney swept the awards at last week’s Northwest Flower and Garden Show, getting the People’s Choice  award as well as Gold Medals awarded by a variety of prestigious landscape magazines and professional organizations.

Jessi, a young mother concerned about environmental health issues, owns www.nwbloom.com, an ecological, chemical free landscaping company. She  teamed up with Tilth gardeners to create “A Family’s Little Farm in the City” with an edible forest, eco lawn, small solar barn, cob oven, kids garden, cisterns, recycled wood chip path, composting, chicken tractor, rain garden, vegetable garden and goats.

Chickens and vegetable gardening were also featured in crowd-pleasing Seattle Urban Farm Company’s  Crops for Clunkers that reused an old truck as a planting bed and chicken incubator.

Urban gardening never looked better!
